    Hi there,
    New to boards.ie,
Hoping to commence building in the next few months & trying to understand certain things so excuse my ignorence.

How & who bores the well?
I presume the water is piped to a tank by the water mains?
Can someone explain this full process to me,

    Thanks a lot....:)

    Springpark,
There's lots of competition for boring wells. Where I'm building in Louth, there's 4 companies within a 30 mile radius. Google well drillers in your area or use Golden Pages.
The driller will provide all the PVC ducting, steel casing needed to bring the water to ground level.
After this, you'll need a service duct to the house, your plumber will probably be the man to advice on this.
If you contact ESB connections, they'll arange for an engineer to come out to the site to discuss how you be conected, they look for the fee of 1,800 before they come out and you'd be advised to contact them at least 6 months before you expect to move into house..
The ESB and phone connection boxes have to be fairly close to the front of the house, I think 1 metre? The ESB engineer will advise.
Hopefully this is some help to you and best of luck with the whole process.

Thanks a million for ur response.
Very helpful, but just one question regarding the well, is a pump required & is it housed at the well point or in a garage etc & how can you guarantee good & fast supply to showers etc?

No problem.. Yes, a pump would be needed. Most likely a submersible pump that's floated in the well. No guarantees that you'll have good supplies but most people i know with wells have always had enough, only one fella down the road with a damn big farm, his dried after 20 something years..

remember as well as the submersible pump you will need room somewhere for a pressure vessle, usually corner of garage or purpose built house.
