Outbreaks in China: Containable?

    • If any government has the ability to contain outbreaks and smack a quarantine down without the cries of smelly liberals and their human rights its good old communist China.
    • Would the World Health Organisation be the front line defence against an initial incident or are their resources stretched with the growing focus on ~piggy cough~.
    • Would the WHO or secretive states like China disclose fully the details of outbreaks concerning Zombies?
A few points there but please discuss.

Alright, Firstly, I dunno if you haven't noticed, but the chines aren't exactly the strongest nation out there physically. A lot of people lived in cramped overcrowded places. This would allow the outbreak to spread faster. I actually think if china was hit with an infection, it would be the first country to fall.

Secondly the World Health Organisation is a farce, and anyone who thinks otherwise, really should wake the f*ck up. The Piggy cough? :P Look into it, and see just how deadly it is an who've died from it.

And of course they wouldn't disclose that kind of information, as will all nations in the first world.

As the previous poster has already said, there would bve serious doubts as to how a country as heavily populated as China would do in the event of a full blown outbreak.

A very small scale outbreak that happened very close to where there was a military and scientific presence could be contained, but an outbreak that has had time to grow to medium size would ruin a country with that size of a population.

People with bites would be in a state of panic and hiding if they thought they would be shot, relatives would be hiding them, and if it were a virus that caused a fast change from living to dead to undead, then it would spread at a crazy rate.

In the opening weeks of an outbreak, give me sparse populations and rough/hilly terrain over heavily populated modern cities/countries anyday.

I don't think WHO would be keeping anything secret. These organisations want to be in the spot light, they'll report anything, even a new variation of the flu, and highlight any of the expected flu deaths that happen every year to make them look important. I would say the WHO will be shouting from the rooftops weather anyone will listen is another storey.

China has an obvious advantage in containment that being they don't have to worry about their citizens rights and can do whatever they want with them, I would expect China to put down any outbreak ruthlessly. If it makes it to a city they may come under international scrutiny but I would think the Chinese will do whatever it takes to stop the outbreak international press or not.

Chinas size and population could allow it to infect the entire region though.

I doubt WHO would disclose anything to the general public for fear of pther countries leading to boycot china entirely for fear of spread of the disease. while Im sure chian have a good record for destroying any solanum viruses if one case was left to linger as posted above our the country would soon be dissolved and another hiroshima "incident" may happen

I don't know, the WHO are semi independent and their only job is to report these things. I'm sure their PR guys are the ones pushing out these scare storeys about the swine flu more so than anybody else. These bodies love to be in the media as it justifies their existence. They may not say what exactly is happening at first but the fact remains the media would be all over this storey as they just love bad news. The media desperation for bad news can't be overlooked or under estimated.

There's also no way any country would boycott China, too many fingers in the Chinese pie for them to risk their investments. They've spat a good few diseases onto the international scene and no ones been that upset about it so far.
