    You can download the latest X Plane demo for free with the option of buying the full game. Its unlimited but timed as far as I know. Havent played it since version 6 or 7, years ago.

    YSFlight is pretty good.

    OK the graphics aren't great - it's no FSX or anything like that but it's free and there are a lot of missions and planes to mess about with and you can play online against others or create your own server for online gaming.

    You can also downlaod mod packs for free from various places for more planes/maps/missions etc

    I have been using MSFS for the past decade now and I thought FG was actually quite good, even if the whole world is not included :)

    You can get scenery packs for Flightgear here: http://www.flightgear.org/Downloads/scenery-1.0.1.html

    I've been flying around EIKN for the laugh, and up through Connemara. Also around the Bay of Naples is nice.

    EDIT: Here's a screenie of the scenery around Paris, they've put in a lot of detail around here:
