    Hi,

    I've got a imac (2g intel).

My OS is OSX Leopard, 10.5.2 - my problem is when i click on anything that says "download now" etc, nothing happens, i can't download anything.

The Mac updates work fine, but anything on a website that i click for downloading doesn't work, it's as if i didn't press it at all

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Have you installed anything recently?

Download managers are nearly always the cause of this problem. What happens is you install them, then delete them, but the plugin remains and keeps redirecting download links to the now non-existent app.

If you've installed anything like that recently, use the app's uninstaller to get rid of it.

Or alternatively remove the plugin manually from:

    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/

    OR

    /Users/*you*/Library/Internet Plug-ins/

Sounds odd but is it downloading but not showing you where/how? i.e. When you click it is there no pop-up from the browser to say it's downloading, but if you check your downloads folder it's there?

Happened before to someone I know and I found hundreds of the same file downloaded because they didn't realise it was downloading without showing the download manager in Safari/Firefox!

What browser are you using? In Safari you can change the download location in Safari menu > Preferences > General tab.

Was it called FolxNetscapePlugin by any chance?

If you've deleted it, restarting the browser should fix it then.

If not manually get rid of the following:

    Library/Internet Plug-Ins/FolxNetscapePlugIn.plugin
    ~User/Library/Application Support/Eltima Software/Folx
    ~User/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/FolxNetscapePlugIn.plugin
    ~User/Library/Preferences/com.eltima.Folx.plist

Remember, there are two Library folders - one at the root of the hard disk and another in your User folder.

Folx is a piece of crap btw. If it's still installed, get rid of it.

might be a shot in the dark, but you are sure there isn't stuff in your downloads folder...? 10.5 uses a downloads folder instead of the desktop unless specified otherwise. also might be worth updating to the latest 10.5.8
