    Hello all,
First of all what this like?Do they give you crap modems or anything? And is the service the same as their full price service?

I'm going into my first year in UCC in cork,The house has dial up :P and tbh I'd like something i know I've already paid for and something that can get above 28.8 kbps,Anyway my laptop has no dial up modem..

It's only for weekdays evenings and I'll be home for the weekend,And it'll be general browsing(I'll easily be able to keep my traffic to a minimum if needed)

So can anyone comment on the speeds they get student or not student in and around the UCC campus?I'll be staying about 500 yards from the UCC accommodation office if that helps.

    Thanks!

can you not use the student wireless? i wouldnt get one until you know this since you are so close. Also they usually have offers to rope students in at the start of the college year. Worth holding on to check both

In a student area, you're likely to get poor speeds on weekday evenings, as more students will be using it. Only way to be sure is try it and see.

Dialup is up to about 49k and always connects.

Mobile is 50Kbps up to 5Mbps approx and may not connect. Latency (ping) is often worse.

My old eircom dial up was 28.8?(shows how crap my line was)

As I've got a netbook no modem anyway...Latency and ping don't bother me really,Won't be using anything like I do on my home connection...

As for school wireless There must be atleast 50 houses between me and the college..
