I read a thread started by Der Kaiser regarding no real musicians out there and to be honest i have to agree with him. People are coming onto this site (not everybody) and looking for a band that is already established on the scene , weather they are a drummer , guitarist , keys , whatever , all they want to do is slot in and fill the void that someone else has left.
Here is two very important points , Firstly due to the "current economic situation" musicians are less likley to be creating voids in bands if that band is gigging and making money so it is getting harder to find acts to join.
Secondly , when i see the line "absolutly no startups" it makes me want to throw up. What is a start up exactly ?
If i get four top musicians who have never met before but know the same twenty songs put them in a room to rehearse once or twice and have a gig waiting for them then does that make them a startup or a gigging band ?
My point here is that this forum is flooded with decent musicians all looking for the same gig and i dont think anyone can see the wood for the trees , i will admit that this forum also has its fair share of time wasters and people who do not want to travel out side there front door to do a gig.
Im a Bass player (36) , been playing for over 20 years doing session/live/studio work and im looking for a new band , i have emailed many many people on this site (under another name) and had no replies , why not ? im as good as the next guy , i will travel for gigs and rehearsals ,
So here goes , I am putting it out to a guitar player a drummer a female vocalist and keyboard player , I want to put a wedding/pub band together and not a band that has one person pulling all the strings doing all the work booking all the gigs like alot of bands that i have sessioned with , a band that operates like a band (ie) votes , chooses the set together etc etc . There is an abundance of realy realy good musicians on this site and there is no reason why a set of 40 to 50 songs can not be had down in a few weeks and gigs activly sought in that time . I guarentee that between 4/5 musicians they probably know about the same 20 songs each anyway.
If there is anybody out there who wants to play recent decent rock songs and be in an excellent wedding band , help get posters and website up and running then PM me and we can take things further.
There is no reason that if it is done right we cant pull off a wedding a week the idea of the pubs is just to have a bit of craic and advertise the band , i depped for a friend of mine recently at a wedding and out of that wedding the band got 3 more that night , weddings breed weddings if your good enough and they are well paid .
Anyway rant over......... (to be continued)

Had a agood read through it don't you worry and I can understand your frustration.Nothing worse when all you want to do is get going with your music and then being let down.

Nothing you can really do though.People just need to cop on and be some what serious about music

based in carlow, play guitar, have two guitarists, singer and bassist. been writing our own stuff and looking to get gigging. but obviously cant cause have no drummer.

unfortunately a lot of "musicians" here think that they are the best that is out there and shouldn have to lower themselves to joining a band that is a new band. they think they can waltz straight into a position in a band and start gigging. f**k them

you hit the nail on the head fair play to ya.
