I finished college in June of this year and had no luck in finding work here so far. Long story short, I'm on Jobseekers Allowance but my OH has landed a 12 month contract in another European country. I'm going to head out there for a few weeks to see about getting work out there.

Does this mean I have to stop my payment or is there anyway of postponing it for 2-3 weeks while I seek work in another jurisdiction?

I'm currently signing on once a month and collecting my payment in cash at the post office.

    Cheers.

Your gonna have sign off, they wont keep your payments for you,you are entitled to 2wks holidays a year though, maybe you should think about using them.

Is there any way to put it to them that I'm heading out solely to find work, which it is, and put the payments on hold?

    Cheers for the replies.

No you can transfer Benefit not Allowance to another country. To receive Allowance you must be resident and looking for work in Ireland. As another poster said you do have 2 weeks holidays you can use, but that is all.

Cheers. Thing is if I apply for the "holiday" payment do I have to come back to collect and sign off or can it be done over the phone?

Really does seem ridiculous calling it a holiday payment!

You apply for your holidays, and they suspend your payment until you get back. You have to go back into the office and sign back on after your holidays and they will then issue the payment in the normal way.
