Resigning query

My husband really hates his job and it is getting him down. He has something in mind that he is interested in working on himself as it is an area that interests him and is more challenging than his job.
He was wondering is there a way you can claim dole if you resign from your job or can you only claim dole if you have been sacked/redundancy. He will need to claim for a bit until he gets himself going. I know this is a step in the right direction for him as his job is stressful and affects him healthwise, he always seems unhappy and no energy. I know in this day and age we should be grateful to have a job. But I would prefer my hubbie to be happy and healthy with less money than in a job that is getting him down.

Also just say if he couldnt claim dole after resigning would this affect his PRSI?

If you resign you can still claim. You just have to wait longer before you are eligible. I think it's something like 9 weeks, but I could be wrong.

Yep you're right and I guess the waiting list ain't getting any shorter either, so you could be 3 months without money. However, the Health Board could give Supplementary Welfare Allowance to tie you over.
