    Hi All

I know the topics have already been discussed elsewhere but I really am bad at rooting through reams of information.... so ANY assistance/ advice would be greatly appreciated:

I am looking for suggestions on:
    • Wedding Cakes - Preferrably Cup Cake Providers in the Greater Dublin Areas plus Dublin City Centre ( v hard to find anything on internet searches)
    • Wedding Photographers with good references and realistic price brackets who is based in Greater Dublin areas
Thanks peeps for all your help

"Realistic Price Brackets" depends on your budget. For some people, a realistic cost of a photographer is €1k - €2k, not including albums. For others it may be less then €500, not including albums. :)

And in these times of economic hardship i am completely open to any suggestions people may have based on their experiences

Note not an advertisement in case anyone tries to lynch me;)

Cake wise, myself and my brother and sister got ours from Anne's Bakery on Mary Street, just down from the Ilac centre. I got mine less than 2 years ago so prices wont have changed much, I got the classical 3 tier with 2 chocolate and one medira and as far as I recal it was roughly 330.

Photographer wise there are many many here on boards, there is a sticky here and a photographers section also so plenty to choose from without blowing the budget.

Cup cake tower is usually charged at 5 euro minimum for a cup cake (depending on decoration and recepie), so if you have 100 guests... it's hardly can be a "budget" option for the times of economic hardship. Traditional wedding cake could work out cheaper (for the same amount of portions - but again it depends on the selected style and decorations).

All I can say is that if you're working on a budget then maybe bear this in mind: the cake will be half-eaten by a bunch of well-fed, semi-drunk people in the later half of your reception, while being ignored by the ones who don't have a sweet tooth.

The photos on the other hand will, hopefully, be looked at by your grand children, and possibly their grandchildren.

    Hi

I am getting married in october and I ordered my cake from the Boston Bakery in Santry. i think they are quite reasonable and im sure they do cup cake wedding cakes.

    Their website is: http://www.bostonbakeryirl.com/

With regards to Photographers you would be best ringing around and getting prices.

    Hope that helps

    Sarah

I got a price of 3.50 per cake - think it was from Annes. I am surprised OP can't find anything on the Net - I did a search and found loads - too many! I got my cake from a guy in Stamullen - Crumbs and he did a great job and very reasonable.

in that case, instead of buying a cake to go uneaten, forgoe dessert with the meal and serve cake instead at the afters. most people are too full after teh emal to eat dessert straight away anyway, and people who don't like dessert will just leave it uneaten anyway. Cut the cake later in the day, when evening guests arrive - its nice to include them in some more 'ceremony' than just a disco! then serve it for everyone who wants it to have - much less waste than having dessert and saves a good few quid also.

also PS - if you go for the cup cakes, then don't hire the tower from the bakers - they charge a fortune for what it is. You can buy them online for less and a tenner and its yours to keep - I know some places charge €30 to hire them! for €10 you could own it!

Some Hotels wont allow this as the cake has not been done by them...

I would definitely recommend Leinster Photography. We had them for our wedding last November and they were fantastic. The guy's name was Gerard Kiely and i think the email is leinsterphoto@gmail.com. We had a fairly low budget wedding but they gave us a good price. The package included the bride's house, wedding ceremony, outside the church and reception afterwards. We basically had the photography all day - it was great! The number is 085 725 7188. I hope your wedding goes well!

of course the cake is not done by them! what hotel DOES the cake??? all cakes are gotten outside of the hotel! any hotel who refused to accommodate this would be scratched off my list straight away! i checked out about 10 hotels or so and ALL of them agreed that this would be ok. Whilst they don't allow other 'food' to be brought in, it is expected that the cake will be supplied by someone else! If they are "allowing" you to have a wedding cake, then they cannot refuse that you serve it or when you choose to have it served! all you are doing is not having dessert as well as cake - don't see how they can "refuse" your choice to go without dessert!

i think what the previous poster means is that unless the cake supplier has the health cert that the hotel will not serve it. They will display but not serve. Theres not many hotels that implement this rule but you should check when booking

I was recommended Gerard Kiely from Leinster Photogrpahy by a friend and it turned out really well. Gerard was with us all day for our wedding and reception and we spent less than €1,000 back in Feb,2009. He was fantastic and very lively all day. Definitely recommend him although he is very busy. I would pin him down before he books out. We were lucky that we booked him a year in advance. I recommended him to my sister for her wedding next year. I don't have his website but still have a number for him if you want to send me a message. The email for Gerard is leinsterphoto@gmail.com.
