anybody watch this at the time it was on or since,

im halfway through second season, its brilliant

obviously it takes a very rose tinted view of (even suburban) polygamy, bill is very likeable but also has a hard streak and is basically very domineering and repressive.

but otherwise the show is lovely, and very clever, each episodes tackles an issue, and the story with the battle with roman is amazing, Chloë Sevigny is brilliant always is. Jeanne Tripplehorn is also brilliant as the wise first mom. and the other one is great fun too. theres so many great characters,

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421030/

its the best tv thing you haven't seen if you haven't seen it.

its started in2006 and is still going filming its 4th season now.

I got the first season, watched one and a half episodes and have not watched since. Might go back to it,but I just didn't enjoy it,none of the characters jumped out as really interesting for me.

This is up there with Breaking Bad as my favourite USTV show at the moment. It's absolutely brilliant and gets better with each season. Long wait until season 4, though.:o

I guess we could suppose to be the 18 yr old girl in it, but she doesn't do much in the first season other then roll her eyes or look sideways at people.

This is an absolutely phenomenal series, one of the best ever. It's certainly the best series that nobody watches. Not to build it up too much, but it really comes into it's own in the 3rd series.

I'm not too sure how you are getting the idea that it presents a rose-tinted view though. I found that the series started off focusing on the positives of polygamy. The big, close family and the sistership of the wives. But what it's really doing is presenting the lifestyle as Barb is trying to convince herself that it is. At the same time showing her utter heartbreak at finding herself living this life. Which ultimately comes to a head in the finale when her attempts to live the life she is living while holding on to the idea she has of herself are shattered. In the second season her unhappiness is much more pronounced.

At the same time the series shows the true nature of the polygamous compounds. The near slavery of the women and the (twisted) ways they have of making their lives more bearable and strengthening their positions. The neglect and abandonment of most of the young boys and the mafia like control the "prophet" holds over his followers and the wealth and power that goes with it. The rape and murder which is part of the compound lifestyle. The third series
really delves into this with the storylines surrounding the sale of young girls as wives and Kathy's whole arc.

I could go on and on about this show. It's so rich and just becomes richer and richer as the series unfolds. But it's tough to not spoil the show when you've only seen 1 and a half series. Another aspect I love of the show is that the plot is layered really well. Little scenes and comments in the 1st season suddenly become important in the 3rd series. There are also a few things that I think will be explored further next year.
