Tried out my new lightforce striker 170 variable scope mounted type tonight.... Delighted!

Thanks to http://www.survivalsuppliesireland.com/ for the excellent deal, advise and rapid personal delivery.....

However, is it just me getting used to the new lamp or does it "sing" when on low power? It's not much of a problem for me but for my dogs..... I wouldn't want to find the new lamp all chewed up after a regrettable event involving the dogs here..... so if anyone can save my lamp and probably a dog or two, please let me know how this sound may be eliminated.

Oh and while I'm on about it, where can the 2 pin "socket and plug" arrangement used by Deben/Lightforce be purchased seperately please?

Yes, all mine do at any rate.

The stepped male/female connector? Why would you want them? They melt!

Apparently I have to type out here too!

Wouldn't that be nice in the game pocket of my wax jacket!!!!

Some of mine have, I've four LF lamps. First thing I do with mine it to replace the connections with DIY. They've the best beam of any lamp yet the worst connections.

both our lighforce lamps were the same- if they would make a good job of the wiring they would be top rate:confused:

Thanks for the info CliveJ but now I'm not sure what to do....... I don't want fiddling with wires every time I use the lamp, simple plug in job would be perfect, but not at the risk of a meltdown.

Let's try working backwards for a moment. What is it you're looking to have as an end result? Better place to start to get advice on components etc. Typing about wiring is an awful lot more complicated and confusing than actually doing it.

I put the BMW Hella type of plugs and sockets on my lamps rated at 16 amps.

Do a search on E bay for Hella BMW

I fit DIN 4165 plugs they are pretty reliable and handle good amperage.
Edit: they are also known as Hella plugs

Is there not a screw together type plug which would do this job?

I have had other make lamps and found the battery to lamp lead connecter always giving trouble from knocks and general use, i have tried to repair many times but they are either flimsy or/and in the wrong place and not protected.

Have you tried those DIN plugs? They are a lot better than those stupid SAE plugs that come with the lamps.
They are a positive connection and actually click together rather than just relying on friction.

It's not the click together that matters but the current rating of the plug and socket. A 100watt bulb takes 8.3 amps @12 volts so you need at least that rating. The Hella type are rated 16amps @12v and have screw connections not solder.

**bigger is better as they all tell me** :D
