I've been trying to find information about this society. What exactly is it about? Does it just organize language classes? Does it run cultural events (film screenings, etc.)? Does it even exist still?

The fact that its 'website' redirects to a Bebo page is less than encouraging...

No no. It exists. I know people who claim to be members. They were forcibly signed up during Fresher's week. Apparently.

As far as I know it's just language classes. I have no idea if they're good or not. You won't need it for French, and you can take an evenong module, for no credit, if you want. I think.

Mod Lang was shut down a couple of years ago. So unless someone cared enough to revive it...

I think DUCSS will be running some J tutorials next year, does that count as a modern language?

Yes. You go to your tutorial, then afterwards you get to watch films in Java and practise your spoken Java with natives

    DURRRRRRRRRRR J ≠ Java

Could turn into a little project...

I suspect it would fail though.

i joined last year, started spanish classes and quit a few weeks later. they weren't the best of classes, but they were grand. i remember them being on quite late (i think finished at 10) and id an hour's commute so couldn't hack it. doesn't seem like a very vibrant society, which is a pity cos i'd say it'd be quite popular if it were.

they used to be a great little society about 3/4 years ago. running Japanese classes and stuff. Stesh you should definitely try and get it going again. it's a lot easier to resurrect Defunct societies than to create a new one.
