If anybody had their car stolen recently might be worth checking if it was amongst this lot, some good news there for some owners anyway :)

Gardaí have seized over a dozen stolen cars at an apartment block in Co. Wicklow, it emerged this afternoon.

Thirteen cars worth around €130,000 in total were recovered during the planned search of an underground car park at Mill Court in Baltinglass yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí said they had been stolen during burglaries in Dublin and Kildare in the past month.

The cars have since been removed for forensic tests.

Bit ironic to anybody who know Baltinglass well....the town is always crawling with Guards, think it is West Wicklow HQ.

Ironic? The cars were parked underground on private property - somewhere the gardai are unlikely to really venture into.

I wonder what will happen to them. Do you think the insurance company would let you buy it back for the amount they gave you?

Thirteen cars stolen in the Dublin area by a "chop shop" gang have been found by gardai.

Officers tracked the cars to an underground car park at an apartment complex in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow. They also recovered seven stolen cars -- including a €40,000 Lotus sports car -- and 16 engines at another location in Blessington.

Investigators suspect the two locations were controlled by a south Dublin organised crime gang. The criminals specialise in the sale of stolen cars and car parts, using the so-called 'chop shop' in Blessington for their activities.

The discoveries were made after gardai in Baltinglass were made aware of large numbers of unidentified cars using the car park at the Mill Court apartment complex in the town.

A search was carried out and the cars were removed for technical examination. The vehicles ranged in age from 2005 to 2009, with a combined estimated value of €130,000.

Among the vehicles were two SUVs, while the remainder were saloons and hatchbacks.

They had been taken during burglaries in the south Dublin, west Dublin and Kildare areas since the end of July.

It is suspected the cars were due to be sold second hand in trade magazines, having had their registrations and chassis number changed.

There is not many underground car-parks in Co Wicklow, I am quite surprised that residents were not suspicious of this and reported it sooner. Usually these places have designated resident only parking.

If yours was one of the seven recovered not bad but pity anyone of the owners of the 16 engines recovered. I assumed if there in a chop shop there all nicked and where would that leave if not covered by insrance second hand engine anyone.
