Hotels - Irritating Trivialities

I just want to get this off my mind as it has been bugging me for ages....on some recent trips where I have had to use some of Dublin's hotels my room has been the farther one away from the elevator which is a pain in the ass carrying a bag to it.

The room is right down at the end of the corridor and the corridor goes on for miles. It so far that I'd nearly call a taxi to get me there. Especially after all the rigmarole of checking in and swiping the credit card, in case I do a runner. I'm knackered by the time I get to the room.....I have no energy left to go back to get grub or a beer.:(

Then to top it all off I have to pay €10 to park the car overnight!

I have requested to have a room closer to the elevator but then can't sleep as the elevator rings/beeps throughout the night as people come and go......you can't win!

    I feel better already.....

B&B? Or if it's really a big deal ask to have a porter bring your bags to the room. They'll probably thing your a spa but they'll do it...

Can't you find some middle ground, something not at the end of the hall and not near the elevator, what do they call it, oh ya halfway down the hall.

    OP, your next problem......

I just want to get this off my mind as it has been bugging me for ages....on some recent trips where I have had to use some of Dublin's hotels my room has been the NEAREST ONE TO the elevator which is a pain in the ass CAUSE THE ELEVATOR IS SO NOISY ALL NIGHT LONG.

The room is right NEXT TO THE ELEVATOR AND I'VE TO LISTEN TO all the rigmarole of PEOPLE TALKING, checking BAGS and swiping the KEY card. I'm knackered COS the room IS SO CLOSE TO THE ELEVATOR THAT I GET NO SLEEP.....I have no energy left to go back to get grub or a beer.frown.gif

Then to top it all off I have to pay €10 to park the car overnight!mad.gif

    I feel better already.....rolleyes.gif

The next time, slip into a Hilton.
There you will have loads of room, there's been many there before, there are big pillows to bury your head into (so I've been told!) to block out the sound and if you smile nicely you might get an extra bump up or two!
(Just keep clear of the rear entrance - the Hilton rear is notorious as has been seen on camera!)

    Just sleep in your car.

Or just get drunk enough to pass out while driving and leave the car on cruise control overnight.

Or just get drunk enough to pass out while driving and leave the car on cruise control ...and call yourself "Britney" or "Lohan".

    Corrected.

I've heard hygiene at the Hilton is questionable, esp at the rear entrance.

The OP's problem is the main reason for there being homeless people. They've just given up on the trauma of staying in hotels with long corridors. The street becomes their mini-bar.:(

Why do hotels never supply toothpaste?

I mean they'll supply free shampoo, deoderant, conditioner, gel, towels, soap, hairdryers, irons, clothespress, dressing gowns, slippers, bibles, wifi, etc, bu never toothpaste.

I was even in a hoel recently that supplied a toothbrush, but no toothpaste!

If they are long wide corridors, it has to be a Hilton! The rug is hairless by now there has been that many on it!

This isn't irritating, but it is a triviality - I love it when hotels and B&Bs supply shower caps! The funny thing is, I generally don't even use them there (I just bring them home to use next time I'm dying my hair), but any place I've stayed that has shower caps has been really nice, regardless of price. I suppose that if they provide that little extra, they pay attention to detail in other areas too.

One thing that does irritate me - I stayed somewhere recently that had a carpeted bathroom floor. Yuck. It didn't even look in anyway dirty, but it was just the idea of it.

Oh and another thing - I hate it when the towels are too small, or when there's not enough of them.

I understand that inside one of the Hiltons there is even a bus-lane, and in another, a bicycle track.

According to ex-users, one IS a bike!

But seriously, yea, some of them are impressive.
The one at London airport is seriously impressive with its structure. Both interior and exterior.

I know your problem OP. You've been gettin the €50 per night deals. This will always get ya the worst sh1t hole in the whole building.
You get what ya pay for I say.
Try Radisson st helens, often 120/night... bargain for what ya get!

Fair point....I didn't even get to mentioning the breakfast.....plain cr*p.....€12 for the privilege.

Radisson St Helens is still outside my budget....class hotel and free car parking...a nice extra.

I see Crowne Plaza has taken over the Burlington which should make a huge different. The Dublin airport crowne plaza is the business....well designed & laid out, great grub, free car parking and good atmosphere in the bar. Only problem is that its too far out and on the north side. Most of my work is on the south side.

True, it's a great hotel. Food and rooms in the airport Carlton are even better though.
