Looks like a really good deal for a 1TB Media Player: €132

They sell them in Reids, not sure of the price but I don't think it's much more than the €145 that'd cost you.

Easons Talbot Street have this model for €149.
Peats also have the Screenplay Pro 1TB for €199 which has an ethernet port and optional wifi so you can can leave it connected to the tv and still access network files (I think the Dane_Elec is USB only).

i got one of these from pixmania last year. There pretty good, mine is a bit tempermental but a friend has the same one and his is perfect. Even for the terabyte external hardrive the price is pretty good but with the multimedia player its an absolute steal.

Very interested in buying a multimedia hard drive to play movies direct to tv. Was just curious why you chose to buy this piece of kit and not the iomega screenplay like most people. I'm reading both good and bad about every product on the market.

What is the transfer speed like when transferring files to the multimedia hard drive?
    What is the menu like?
What is the quality of the files when being played on the tv?

    Cheers

Any idea how much the optional wifi connector is?

Transfer speeds on the Screenplay Pro 1TB are terrible. I've tried a few PCs and it takes about a day to copy the full drive via USB - max speed is about 12 Mb/sec. So much for USB2.

The ethernet port is even worse - about 5 Mb/sec IIRC.

I need to get an external hard drive to back up my PC, it would also be nice to be able to take stuff off my PC to watch elsewhere. Would this do both jobs or would I need to get two different devices.

As far as using it for backing up PC - I'd be happy enough to leave it run over night - so it doesn't have to be lightning speed.

Yeah you can put whatever you want on it. Music, films, pictures, backup files... doesn't make a difference. When it comes to playing them on the TV you just browse through the folders to get to your media and play it.
