Are the Vintners serious? Could further 5000 jobs in the industry be gone by the end of the year?

If so, what pubs in Clare are most likely going to go to the wall?

I would give a very generic answer and say that places that are being leased by people only interested in getting big crowds of drunk people in at the weekend will close, places that look after their customers 7 nights of the week will be ok

I'd agree that anywhere a publican is leasing he is probably under serious pressure to survive the winter. Rents which were fixed in the boom years are not sustainable.

Also while daft rules exist regarding drink promotions whilst every off licence is offering a "two for one special", its not even punters who will benefit.

More people drinking at home !

In my humble opinion its not a good thing.:(

There's a new bar opening in the market on September 1st. It's called Patricks. They added me on Facebook.

Brandons are putting out all the stops to retain their customer base. They've lauched a 'pirate bar' in the smoking area. Haven't seen it yet but I'm assuming they have Haaaarrrrrrp on draught.

I'd say the bars with good smoking areas will last. There are too many places where you have to leave your pint inside, can't enjoy a smoke with it, come back in to find a glass collector has taken it and you've lost your seat. Either that or the smokers/non-smokers having to split up every 20 minutes and destroying the flow of conversation.

They have added me as well, oh gone be with the days that the Market was where it was all at, Henry's for a few Black Russian's, maybe a game of pool, down to Dillingers/Porterstall, maybe into Patricks/Mosco's, down to Gracie's, into El Paso, might head down to Pockets for 1 on the way to to Kearney's, I'm getting old.........

Market was definitely where it was at because The Porter Stall was the only pub that'd serve 16 year olds, until The Cloister and it's overflowing toilet opened up. Happy days.

any pub that's run down and doesnt look after its customers will hit the wall - hard, the sooner the better and good riddance to them, in this situation the better will rise and adapt, it'll separate the men from the boys, so to speak;)

Having a pub infrastructure is a good thing, its important for people to get out meeting each other and having a laugh. Bue they new generation of drinkers have radically changed the ways pubs are run in the last 15 years.

What ever happened to the days when going to the pub was for a few, having a chat with other locals in a peaceful atmosphere?

Nowadays, going out is a chore. You go into packed meat factories, with blaring music and security all over the shop. Getting a pint, going to the jacks, leaving your jacket safely and just talking to each other is a struggle.
