I have a bose lifestyle 28 (II i think) and i have seen some stuff on the VS2 video enhancer that upgrades the picture to 1080 etc. but it says does not work on the LS28. Then I have also seen some forums where it seems to indicate it will work on the LS28? Does anyone know a) if it will work and b) is it worth getting?
    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Home Entertainment forums.

I'm afraid that I have nothing to offer on this question, I have no experience with the gear in question - your best bet is to look for information on forums specialising in Bose equipment, it wouldn't be the most widely owned equipment on these forums.

    All the best,

    Ritz.

First off, taking the Ritz's advice, I will not comment on a) because I have no experience with bose equipment.

With regard to b) my advice on upscalers (which from a brief googling is what the VS appears to be) is that they will provide mixed results.

Many devices, in fact every video device has a scaler in it, which converts a standard input signal to whatever format the display is.

What you are essentially betting on, is that the scaler in the VS is better than the scaler in your TV. The source (DVD) contains no more information than 576p so you will never get more information. What you can get with external scalers, is the benefit of a faster video processor can possibly provide less audio lag, or possibly less flickering. But, I'm willing to bet that the one in your TV is providing you no such issues at present.

In my case, I bypass the scaler on my amp and only use the converter (which might be another handy feature of the VS), which means that you can connect multiple video sources to one display using one cable.

i.e. at present you are probably connecting your dvd player via component, and ntl box via scart and wii via composite and ps3 via hdmi. With upconversion you connect the converter to the display with one cable and plug the other devices into the converter if you get me. This is useful for syncing audio/video (particularly with BR discs).

Not sure if this is what you want to hear, but I have posted this opinion several times on threads where people ask if an upscaling dvd player will give them better picture quality.

If you want to be guaranteed better video quality that will work post back for some advice on external video scalers.

According to the Bose IRELAND and BOSE USA they list the LS18 from series one as a possible upgrade path :
So the answer is yes, it will work with the LS18. The process involves an upgrade to your LS via a supplied disc.

To reiterate what nereid has already stated , the upscaling quality of the VS-2 is about average with compared with a DVD with a hdmi port. Where it differs is the wireless function of your remote controls what additional inputs have connected to it.

In the long term I would pose a question which would be more relevant :
Are you looking at up-scaling analogue eg you ntl or sky if so this will be a good buy.
If your looking at getting a better DVD picture from your LS18 then buy a Blu-Ray player which will give you both a reasonable DVD up-scale and the use of blu-ray which is 1080 native.
