My question in fairly straight-forward, can you be insured as a main driver on two cars?

For instance my mother is insured on her own car as main driver, and insured on my car as main driver, with me as a named driver to cut down on the price.

Yes is the answer but you can only use your no claims bonus on one car and start from scratch on the other....ie....no no claims bonus can be used on the second car.

I've always wondered about this. When I start driving my ma bought a bora and gave me her micra. I was policy holder on it and she was named driver but a copper told her that because she was still on the logboook my insurance wasn't valid as the name on the logbook had to match the one on the insurance policy but others have been told otherwise by police

VLC and insurance policy should have matching names. You must have an insurable interest in the vehicle (you own it, suffer from it's loss etc.). The only exception is with spouses where both can be in either name.

Am I missing something or have you answered your own question?

If your mother used her NCB on her car, she can't use it on your car, If she did so your insurance is invalid. This is unless when she insured your car that the company agreed to mirror her NCB.

"Your" car must also be in her name for her to insure it as posted before.

Sure, i left out one small word, my fault. To be fair, i don't think its too unclear what i'm asking about.

Just rang up Hibernian there about the NCB situation. He says using the NCB on both cars is no problem; 50% at 5years+ on one car, and 50% at 5years+ on the other. Was quite surprised to tell you the truth. One remaining problem is that "my" car is actually registered in my name. Is transferring ownership a big deal?

I'd take that with a pinch of salt to be honest, that could change if a claim comes through. Always get it confirmed in writing to have something to comeback with.

Most insurance companies offer a "mirrored NCB scheme" these days, even Quinn!

Mainly if its insured only on bout cars though. If you added a driver to one this changes the risk and main user of the second car.
