    Hi,

    Couple of suggestions;
    Galway-Moycullen-Spiddal-Galway, this is about 40K and has a long climb out of moycullen.
    Galway-Ougtherard-Costello-Galway, this is about 100K and has a few climbs from Ougtherard to Seanafestin.
    Galway-Maam Cross-Screeb-Costello-Galway, this about 120K and generally flat all the way round.

    All three of these have narrow roads; unavoidable on the Connemara side of Galway. To the east of the city there are lots of different circuits that can be done that are all flat but the roads are very busy. Galway-Tuam-Galway used to be great for flat, fast training but the volume of traffic is extremely high nowadays.

    Get in touch with local cycling clubs as they often go out in groups on a Sunday morning during winter or weekday evenings. You'll get to meet other cyclists, get all kinds of info and advice, and there's always safety in numbers. I don't have any up to date contact details unfortunately.

    Hey Crippens, whats the quality of road like on this run? Would it be similar to ther road between Moycullen and Spiddal?

    Also, what's the crazy dog count like?

    Thanks for that Crippens. I may try the Galway - Tuam route first as there is a hard shoulder. Its been a while since I've got on a bike so I will be a bit wobbly starting out. It would be safer for me to stick to the hard shoulder:o

    Hi McTigs, the road is typical Connemara but not the worst. It starts at Oughterard (turn left immediatley before the church, the climbs are in the first feww miles and you come out a little on the galway side of Costello. This circuit is probably my favourite in Connemara because it is fairly isolated and especially in Winter you will meet very few cars. Also, if you're mountain biking there's a coillte wood after a few miles along that road on the left that has great paths and can link all the way through to the Galway-Ougtherard road at Ross Lake.

    The mad-sheep count is what you need to worry about in Connemara; they often like to rest/lie on the road in preference to the generally wet bogland - but they don't bite!

    Have fun.
