I have a 06 VW passatt 1.6 FSI and a fault has come up on the dash saying steering fault and i got it checked and was told it's an electrical fault and i checked up on line to c if any where re called ? In America the same steering 80,000 passatt's where recalled ? Did anyone have the same problem and what was the outcome ? Will VW Do the work on warranty ? I was told it'll cost around €1,000 ?

I have heard of a couple of people with this fault. Dont know anything else about it really. Its not one of the more common problems id seen with the passat (particularily 06 passat).

    Steering Column sensor?

I think VW are giving a goodwill gesture on repair costs for this, but it still isn't cheap.

Get an estimate on repairs from your local main VW dealer and ask them to apply for Goodwill as the car is out of warranty.

Just had a quick look to see if I could find a rough cost, but unfortunately I can't.

It's a common fault on most of the 2006 models and is not covered under VW Warranty. It's a faulty steering column and is apparently a big job to fix. You're talking the guts of €1,200 to fix and it has to be done in main dealer as far as I know.I think your kesya have to re coded also.
    Can you start the car?

    +1

I saw in the service history of my Leon that it had the steering column replaced under warranty. I dunno if its the same part but it could be a similar part. Dealer said it was a recall at the time...
