10km race four weeks before marathon?

There's this big corporate challenge on across the city I live in at the moment and my workplace need people to run in a 10km for them on 21st September. Normally I'd be game but it's only four weeks before the DCM.

Thoughts anyone? Good idea or not?

What are you aiming for in DCM? Can you run 10km comfortably at the moment and still get in a good session the following day? There shouldn't be any problem with a 10k four weeks before the marathon, it might serve as a great confidence boost too.

Running 10km is no problem - but RACING 10km might be a different deal...

Did a half marathon last weekend and for the rest of the week I was absolutely floored. Though the weekend before I'd run 12 miles very comfortably, it's just upping the pace that's the issue.

Id say absolutley go racing in the 10km. Race experience is invaluable, you could just look upon it as a speed session. I mean speed sessions should be performed at race pace(and above) anyway so I really dont see how it could be any problem. Go for it

If you're doing a 10 kms, add 30 seconds a km onto your usual time per km. Did a 10 kms 3 weeks before a marathon and a 5 miles race the week before and did it this way.

Found it good for the confidence, running in a race and preparing what you need to do for the morning of the marathon. If your training is going well, its a great boost for the big event as you'll do a good time and not be wrecked.

My P&D schedule has me racing a 10k, three weeks before my target marathon (also the day before my long run). So, you should be fine with 4 weeks, but only you know your recovery time.

Yeah I'd agree with teh above - 4 weeks is plenty of time to recover and the 10k time will give you a really good indication of your probable DCM time.

Looks like it's unanimous so. 10km race it is!

Sure loads will be doing the half on the 26th before the DCM.
