What is the Rose of Tralee though? It's not a talent contest, and it's not a beauty contest, so what is it? I've always thought it was pointless and stupid.

The winner is selected based on her personality and is a role model for Ireland as she travels around the world.

It's fairly silly stuff but it's as Irish as a Paddy's Day parade and can be a good laugh. I don't mind it really. Here are the roses I think:

I'm liking the San Francisco Rose and the Waterford Rose.

I agree, it does no harm and I think if you don't want to watch it then don't... personally I think it's a load of antiquated ****e for the "rose tinted glasses" brigade... should be knocked off the screen ASAP for being so ****ing crap.

didnt get through the audition process to the live shows.
All the roses are put into groups of 5 and interviewed. Then, one rose in each 5 is put through to the live shows.

I don't think it's crap, I just don't understand the point of it. Does a Rose of Tralee do anything for Ireland, in terms of promotion? Do they bring in jobs or something?

It's pretty much a meaningless beauty pageant, from where I stand, only it pretends not to be.

Not a great fan but I might tune in. What time does the swimsuit round usually start?

every one money is on kerry rose i don,t know why?i think France good or newfounderland rose .
i don,t see the point of the rose of tralee either.its giving a girl prizes all because they born with right genetic and supermodel looks, the great job, friends, boyfriends.the whole package.i thinks its all bit shallow.
rose of the tralee = perfect girl

Now that WOULD make it worth watching!! Some of them are very easy on the eye.

the irish beauty contest.i don,t like competitions like rose of tralee, miss world ,miss universe, because it it make other girls who are not as pretty or as successful ,popular, have a good job, tone friends, boyfriends, feel very inadequate because not all girls can live up to rose of tralee of idea of perfect. every year i watch of tralee and see all these girls with everything going for them.look, brains, job, friends, boyfriends, perfect family, travel.
for the girls who have nothing going for them never get pick for the rose of tralee.the girls who could done with wining the rose of tralee.its seem its only for the girls with everything.good education and proper upbringing, the piano lesson, finish school, classic singing lessons, so on. the girls with rich daddys

I actually like the fact that they have different interests, have jobs and are well educated. They are positive role models when so many other beauty contests just depend on the girls' looks. Let's face it, in this day and age young girls looking at this programme should be aspiring to try to be like them. There's a few young girls I know that only want to have children so they can claim the single mothers benefit. Please don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a young single mother but there is so much more to aspire to in this world.

French rose was hot but not much of a personality to go with it. I was enjoying my supper until the last rose

i think the age to enter should be between 18- 30.and should be more based on personalty and talent and nothing to with looks or size.from reading the kerry paper there want people to mark then on there good looks etc .so is it only good looking, tall, slim girls the only one allow to enter?fair play to last rose for entering and getting through.

I missed the Rose of Tralee last night (unavoidable reasons) but someone I know is a competing rose so obviosly i'm raging I missed her. Anyone know if it will be repeated on TV at all? Can't find it in the listings.

Aw brilliant; you're a star; thanks so much for that. Is it the whole programme do you know? I've restricted access in work so should be able to view it when i get home this evening.
    Thanks again.

I thought it was generally grand- loved the German Rose

The interview with the poor Derby Rose was a torture from start to finish. How dare Ray put her on the spot with all those questions about her becomming the primary caregiver for her brother.

Poor girl- like what could she say.

I hope he gets in bother over that
