Ok so my brother-in-law is an Opthamologist in Spain and checked both my daughters (6yrs&9yrs) need glasses, he tested them and wrote out the prescriptions both require, because the youngest was a priority we bought the glasses in Spain as she is young enough to have her eyesight condition corrected but left my older daughter till we got back to ireland, from talking to Optician's here they tell me there is a one year wait to get seen by an optimologist here but I was wondering if I get a letter from my brother in law and attach the prescription surely they could just give out the vouchers for the glasses? I'm sure some on here have had their kids checked privately rather then wait a full year to be seen publically to get the glasses voucher can you do this? Any advice appreciated.

as far as I know, you just need a prescription that shows the child needs corrective lenses in order for them to furnish you with a voucher.

Not every child goes to an opthamologist unless for specifics.

For example: a 6 yr old comes in complaining of headaches, sees opticians-- she needs glasses.. parents go to the health board, show them the prescription and they get a voucher for 50 odd euro.
