    Hi Folks,

Just spent twenty minutes on hold for Sky only to be cut off so Im buggered if Im spending more money ringing the bastards up again. I recently canceled my Sky account but I still have the Sky+ box and I was wondering if it could be used to view FTA channels like RTE etc.

From what I know of set top boxes there shouldn't be a problem once I have the right card in but not sure if my old card will continue to work or do I have to get a new one from sky (Will the bastards charge me an arm and a leg for it?) Has anyone switched off Sky and managed to use their Sky+ box for free to air channels only?

    Regards,

    Dave

You can only get the UK channels. You need an active Sky subscription to recieve RTE.

remove the card and re boot. that will show you what you will get..

you wont be able to record anything -or watch any programs that are already recorded.

    Hi Folks,

Cheers for the feedback turns out I get nothing with the card out and John Mac is saying it sounds like they essentially brick the Sky+ box without the card. I guess I will have to look into a cheap FreeSat box.

If my dish is aimed for Sky then should I be able to pick-up FreeSat without adjusting it?

I have an old Sky box in the bedroom that I am using to view the FTA channels and I am having no problems with it, so I don't see the point in you sheding some of your cash for a new freesat reciever (unless you want PVR funtions or HD)
