Car Insurance Woes

I'm not expecting much consolation here but here goes. I've had car insurance for the last 18 plus years,no penalty points, and never any claims against me.
Last year I put my 19 year old son on the policy with me and we got a decent deal from Axa of €800 for the two of us and my husband.
In November a dog ran full tilt into the wing of the car and caused €800 odd worth of damage to the car which I had repaired through the insurance company. I stood to lose 20% of my no claims bonus which I thought I could live with.
Today I got the renewal quote and it's €1959!!! I've phoned Axa and Insure.ie who are the brokers. No joy from them at all. Axa even went through a new quote with me bypassing the broker and it was €2400!!!
I've tried a few online sites and they won't quote me due to the claim.
Anyone ever been in the same boat? Any advice?

Moved to Motors, it's probably better suited here.

See what the quote would be with a full bonus and with no claim, if there is big difference on last years quote, you can buy back your NCB by paying Axa back the €800.

€800 + new quote should be a lot cheaper than €1959.

Great thanks for that. I went onto the Quinn Direct site and they ask in detail how much the claim was for and circumstances. If I leave the 19 year old off the policy I can get cover for 352 which is very competitive.

As cruel and all as it is to ask, you know the dog owner is liable to pay for the damage to your car.

There was a thread on this awhile ago, i take it there was no contact detail etc on the dog.

You have me worried about what is coming my way anyway next year!

Sod the dog. If you can leave your 19 year old off the insurance and get a quote for 352, that's the option to take. You might do okay if you take that policy, then ask to have your nipper added after the fact, but it's a chance I guess you'd have to take on it....
