The Never-ending stitch

For the past week I've been getting a severe stitch every time I run on my right hand side. I have a race on Thursday so I'm anxious to sort it out. What exactly causes a stitch?
Does anyone have any tips to help ease a stitch? Walking doesn't seem to help so I've resorted to just running through the pain!

Got the same thing on the first run of GF on saturday. I think it was gas as it was gone once I completed the Kayak!
Maybe eating too close to the run?

food gives me a stitch - I never eat within an hour of training

The way you breath can also be a factor in getting a stitch and not just food.

Have a look at this earlier thread..
The long breaths helped me last few times i had stitches. went away much quicker than usual...

+1 on the breathing technique. I find engaging your core makes it go away too if breathing doeasn't but 99% of the time its breathing for me
