Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this.. Just heard about it on the radio...There are tours being organised in RCPI today.


Amputation Kit Items of interest on display will include medical equipment including amputation instruments, fine works of art, including splendid statues by the great 19th century Irish sculptor, John Foley, the spectacular College silver mace and a unique collection of items associated with Napoleon, including his tooth brush!

Visitors to the exhibition will have a unique opportunity to see Ireland's distinguished medical heritage displayed within the architectural splendour of the College's magnificent home at No.6 Kildare Street. The collection follows the history of the College and of Irish physicians and includes portraits, silverware, medical artefacts, instruments and the impressive Dun’s medical library.

Visitors will finish their tour in the Dun’s Library, so named after the original donor, the renowned physician Sir Patrick Dun. The library dates from 1713 and contains some 30,000 volumes, the earliest dating from the 16th century.

Founded in 1654, the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is the oldest surviving medical institution and its building on Kildare Street is one of Dublin’s great secrets. This is an opportunity for members of the public to view its treasures and unlock its secrets.

Tours of the building will take start at 12:30 pm and run every hour until 7:30 pm. In order to ensure all visitors have a positive experience, large groups are asked to notify the College in advance on Tel: 01-6698806.
