    Hi,

I'm planning to start Cap1 exams in October by doing the elevation programme with ICAI.
I am currently working in a different industry (engineering) but I want to get into accountancy.
My plan is to keep on working in my current job and then apply for a trainee accountant job after my exams next June.
Nervous but Im looking forward to the challenge.
Anyone else startin Cap 1's through this programme or anyone have experience with ICAI before.

I havent paid for the course yet so still time to persuade me to change my mind!!

    Thanks.

    Hello Kee1,

    In the same boat.

I am going to do this as well. I don't work in the financial sector but I'm going to give this Elevation programme a try and see how it goes.

I haven't sent off the application form yet. I'm going to the evening meeting the ICAI are having in Dublin this Wednesday. Might find out more about it then.

Hi thanks for the reply. I went to the opening evening there a few weeks ago. It was pretty casual but I got all my questions answered. Seems like a fairly well set up program.

Have you sent off the application form already?

Yes I sent off the application form yesterday. Once the application form is processed, they send you a letter asking you for your permission to take the money out of your account.
I am assuming my application will be processed quickly as I am not applying for any exemptions...

    hi folks
also applying as have been wanting to get a professional qualification for some time now. Hitting 29 in January so think its now or never before i get settled and all that stuff.

My only concerns are again, getting a relevant position unless i can secure one in my current companies accounts dept! also the fact that its probably going to be 4/5 years before you are actually qualified and a lot can change in that time.....

i m planning on doing CAP 1 unaided with the help of a friend who is a qualifed. Is this achievable? I would have never thought of accountancy 10 years ago, but working inindustry, it seems quite a varied and interesting career choice now and not like 20 years ago when it was all calculators and piles of paper.

    Good luck

    Hi guys,

i m back again, just wondering for those of us starting out, how many subjects is it wise to do in the first year.

Are you guys aiming to complete CAP 1 by next May/August?

Is it pointless to do 2/3 subjects first off?

Can you mix the subjects you want?

On the elevation Programme you have to take a minimum of 2 subjects and obviously you can take all if you wish.

I had an exemption for one so I’m taking the rest in May/August. I attended the brief and their advise was not to take all subjects if you have a busy schedule with work etc. As I had an exemption for one I felt I would be better attempting the remainder as opposed to leaving one or 2 until the following year. Hopefully I can manage the work load!!

    Thanks,

I think the first 3 papers in May would be enough, but would i only be able to finish CAP 1 the following year, or could i complete CAP 1 and take 1/2 of the CAP 2 exams in 2012 also?

I'm taking the elevation programme as well while trying to work full time in a non finance job (I.T.). Taking it in Dublin.

I've decided to take 3 exams this year based on the fact I won't be able to get study leave from work.

I was told at the open evening that next year I could finish CAP1 and start CAP2.

I must say the lectures so far have been very good. Exam focused and good notes/handouts.

Just worried about trying to get the required experience.

Would I be classed as as graduate after being out of college for 5 years? Thinking of applying for some of the trainer contracts now....
