Looking into getting this done, if anyone has the time, I'd appreciate it if you could fill out a bit of info on the place you had it done.
Have an appointment with Optical Express in Newbridge tomorrow, but need other opinions also. Not familiar with Dublin at all so I'd have to rely on the satnav.
The more info the better, thanks ;)

I'm going for a consultation with optical express in Dublin tomorrow, I can get 30% back from Hibernian Aviva. For some reason I have a feeling it's gonna be fierce pricey. They rang me yesterday, if I'm suitable and decide to go ahead with the operation I have to pay €500 to hold a date for the surgery, wasn't expecting that.

    Name of clinic: Optical Express
    Location: Newbridge
    Your prescription: 7/7.5
    VHI/etc?: nope
Lasik/Lasek/Wavefront?: the most expensive one...lasik maybe, cant remember
    Overall Cost: €4000
    Aftercare/Guarantee: dunno didnt go ahead
First impressions of/confidence in clinic: not great.
Comments: as soon as my consult was over and they had told me the price (I was more thinking along the lines of €2000, they brought me into another room with the woman I done the initial tests with, sat me down and asked what date would I like to booked in for! didnt ask me if I wanted it or cud afford it which I thought was a bit much. Told her I couldnt afford it and maybe do it through the payment option which they had on their leaflets but she said that wasnt available anymore. my boyfriend had a consult the same day (€2000 his prescription about 3/3.5) he booked it without really thinking it through so decided to cancell and got his €300 deposit back. they have rang me maybe 4 or 5 times since asking when I want to book it which just puts me off!

was talking to my optician since about it and he reckons they are very dogdy they get someone to fly in for a weekend do a batch of surgeries and off they go again. he said to go ptivate its not much cheaper and far better aftercare.

    Name of clinic: Ultralase
    Location: Waterford
    Your prescription: -3.5
    VHI/etc?: No
    Lasik/Lasek/Wavefront?: Aspheric Lasik with Wavefront
    Overall Cost: €3450
Aftercare/Guarantee: Lifetime. Checkups at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month so far

First impressions of/confidence in clinic: Free consultation was extremely thorough and the optometrist was very informative about all of my results and what they would mean for treatment. I was asked if I wanted to go ahead and was given a 20% discount due to an offer they had on the radio.

Comments: I was given a call after booking my appointment and offered and upgrade to aspheric LASIK treatment for free. It's a new method that improves night vision. Apparently they had only just begun offering it and were giving it to me for free because when I booked my appointment I was going for what I thought was the best treatment at the time. I was somewhat suspicious but after asking a few questions and looking it up I decided I wasn't being used as a guinea pig and took the offer.

The surgery was very quick and simple. I had some problems with the eyedrops I was given and was seen immediately once I reported them. The aftercare has been superb so far and Ultralase has just acquired a clinic in Dundrum so I don't have to travel so far for my checkups now.
