    Hello !

I'm looking for an Artist who would have a similar style to the likes of Paul Booth, preferably in the Dublin area but I wouldn't mind traveling. I've got a few ideas down on paper and would like to see what could be done with them.

    Any help appreaciated :)

Justin Russell could be your man for this and he's also in Dublin. You can contact him via myspace, where you can also have a browse through his portfolio. He's got some work up on Allstar Ink's albums page to which should give you a good idea what he's capable of...

    or

    Jason Butcher UK

    or

    Victor Portugal, SP

    or

    Alexander D. West, FR

My own choice here would be between Victor Portugal and Alexander West. I'd pick these 2 over Paul Booth himself, personally I think Booth is stagnating (or his talent has plateaued) while he's hugely important as part of tattoo history I dont think his stuff of late is pushing the boundries like it used to...................but thats a discussion for another thread most likely.

Really liking the look of Victor Portugals stuff alright. I'd like to keep it in the country if possible, the added traveling costs could be a killer on top of what I want done but as I said If I felt someone outside the country could do a better job towards what I want I'd do it.

I know what you mean about the additional cost what with these harsh economic times and all that . However, its worth it in the long run when you think about it, the artist you pick is the difference between getting a good tattoo and a great tattoo.
Besides that point these artists generally do some of the conventions in the UK so you could very much arrange the tattoo you want via email and then book maybe 6 hours with whatever artist when they tattoo at the London convention or whatever. It is also worth keeping in mind that many of these artists (thats not to say any that I've listed) charge less of an hourly rate than Irish artist have to, so that could save a few pennies too.

Other than hourly rate, what other factors come into in terms of cost of actually getting the tattoo ? Or does it go by hourly rate alone ?

Other factors may be quoted, but it generally boils down to an hourly rate.
The size, complexity and number of different colours may all effect the price as they alter how long the tattoo will take to complete.
