The turnout wasn't huge but then again for a small village it wasn't bad I suppose, just thought that there would have been more support from the neighbouring districts. GAA parochialism still rules I suppose :(.
There was some dignitaries on the podium (Seán Kelly MEP, Derry Canty Mayor of Cork) and some politicians in the "crowd" (Andrias Moynihan local councillor, Simon Coveney FG TD - not even his constituency!).
Olive herself spoke very well and she got a fantastic reception.
My little girl waved her tricolour all night - hope she remembers the event.

PS - Wife asked me why I didn't bring along my cap which has the autographs of both John Tracey and Sonia O' Sullivan on it, so that I could have gotten OL to autograph it as well.
I jokingly replied that that cap is reserved for Olympian silver medalists only..... she wasn't impressed.

I thought the crowd was fairly good!!!! Great atmosphere and reception in the GAA hall after, well done to everyone who brought and gave out the food and drink!!!!

Hopefully you will be bringing that cap to Coachford in 2012!!!!

I am well aware of that. The bronze medalist in the 50km walk, a spaniard I think, was at least that too. I didn't view her medal in Berlin as a surprise and predicted it on a seperate thread on this forum

However it is still a big ask. I hope she can do it and deserves maximum funding on her quest.

    Hello humans,

Just bumping to the top that there is a second (home)coming! Yes Loughrea - her club and the place that shares many letters with her name so is obviously much more dear to her heart than someplace called Coachford.

Seriously though would be great to get a big turnout to welcome her home after her outstanding performance. Dust off your flags and get the kids out - we might not see another one for a while!

    Cheers!

    Mark.
