Sergio should have won it, Stadler could have won it but eventually Moore won on the second playoff hole. Garcia played very poorly over the back nine but had a bunker shot on 18 to join the playoff group. It’s a sublime shot from a gifted golfer, the look on Garcia’s face after the shot is absolutely priceless, and his expression reminded me of his thoughts after Harrington beat him at Carnoustie. The Golfing Gods at work again…. lol

Feel sorry for Sergio, that was some **** luck.

Hopefully he starts winning more, the more people challenging Tiger, the better.
(Sergio definately has the game to better Tiger ;) )

The bunker shot on 18 was a bit unlucky alright but he played terribly on the back nine and didn't deserve to win. His putting stroke still looks weak under pressure.

Was last night the first night Eurosport 2 was shown on UPC?

Caught a bit of it, don't know how Garcia's bunker shot didn't go in on the last. But its yet another tournament he's let slip.

Really thinking now that sergio is finished as regards majors... not unless someone grabs him by the shoulders, hits a dig, kick in the hole and tells him to snap out of his sullen demeanor.

no doubt the guy has the game. but of all the top 20 pros is there anyone who's mentally weaker? Off all the disciplines in golf putting is the most "mental" of them all. Dont think its any coincidence sergio is kack from about 6 foot away. He's okayish from further out. what does that tell you.

its a shame, but the dude needs to grow up. and he's rapidly gaining a rep in the states as a poor loser. And comments he has said made re. augusta & bethpage black shows incredible poor judgement & an amount of petulance.

seriously who is this guys management?

Ryan Moore is a very interesting player though. He wears his own clothes, buys his own golf clubs.

he chose not to have any sponsors in 2009 so he could concentrate on his golf. I think its admirable!

Watching it last night, his demeanour looked ok to me. He just played rubbish.

what worried me most about Sergio is that he was splaying drives all over the place. He hit a 7 -iron on the 15/16th a full 40 yards left of target- it bounced off the grandstand and onto the green - he then proceeded to leave the putt 6 feet short right..... when Sergio loses control of anything but his putter, he's in real trouble -

Ryan moore... no coporate sponsorship from a major golf brand!?

    Very admirable alright!

Just who is bankrolling this guy???

On sergio... imho... i think his ship has sailed... ( oh im sure he's gutted i feel this way )..... i could be talking outa my rear but i cant see him contend in a major with 6 holes to play without doing his customery wobble.

probably unfair, but tbh... from being a fan he's kinda pee'd me off with his ungraceous behavior in recent years.

I couldnt agree more, its difficult to have sympathy for him.

I must admit I was rooting for him on those last few holes, I'd like to see him getting more serious about the back nine in a tournament he has at his disposal.
He's a great character in the game of golf at the mo, but I feel the lack of winning consistently & lack of a major etc is getting to be a 'heavy' burden on him.
/cheer up Sergio, it'll happen soon..........

Garcia has had the lead or a share of the lead thru 54 holes 7 times in his career and has won only 2 of those times... I'd like to see him do well but that isn't great form for number 7 in the world in my opinion.

I don't think it's unfair at all. I've lost a lot of time for Garcia over the last few years. He comes across as a moaner who blames everyone else for his failings. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he turns out to be one of the best players of this era to never win a major !

bankrolling him? Do you know how much these guys get paid? he came 82nd on tour last year and won $1.2m, he now has winnings of $1.9m this year -
I think he's well able to bankroll himself!

    He's 27, I think he'll manage ok.....

i suppose youre right. i loose sight of the fact sometimes that these guys actually win prizemoney and that their income isnt purely sponsored.

i really wish the pga & european tours would discourage players from being walking advertisements... the game is steeped in etiquette afterall... how about sponsorship on the bag only?

i can count on one hand the number of times this year ive seen padraig without a poxy baseball cap on.
and look at tigers hairline!... ruined from years of wearing a hat. he looks ridiculous without a hat.
and stewart cink... for christs sake man... on practice days put some factor 25 on there and try to get your head not to look so much like white bum-cheeks!

anyhow, i know the advertisement is pretty discreet compared to other sports... but then golf is different ( thank god ).... but the constant wearing of hats gets on my tits. Even in press conferences afterwards they could take them off and just place them in front of the mike or whatever.

it just bugs me that people i admire ( ie P.H. ) are "hawking products" as bill hicks would say.

yep, im an idealist - totally unrealistic in world where marketability is god.

It costs at least a grand a week to play on tour. How are young tour pros supposed to be able to afford that without sponsorship?

And what has etiquette got to do with it?

Well the professional game needs to take a serious look at its week to week running costs.... PGA & European tours are wholly reliant on corporate sponsorship and as such are feeling a sizable pinch in the current downturn.

the AT&T championship wont be back next year, the champions tour has lost its major backer - Ginn developments - and is pursuing them thru the courts, PGA tournaments in denver & pennsilvania have been struck off next years calender. and the LPGA is down 3 or 4 tournaments next year too.

Clearly golf needs to downsize drastically inorder to endure the recession. Much like the F1 is trying to. It might not be a bad idea, as a start, to look at how much it costs a pro, young or otherwise, to complete week in week out and not rely so heavily on coporate endorsements.

However, my point is, albiet a fanciful one, that the pro game pays so much lip service to callaway & taylormade etc. that it would simply be more dignified if pro's didnt wear sponsors hats & clobber constantly. its a personal thing, i dont expect anybody to agree with it and if you dont well fine.
The etiquette thing is a reference to how at amatuer level a player is required to dress appropriately - and in the pro game you have the likes of poulter and also garcia who's an adidas clothes horse. Was making a broad connection there, didnt make it very well.
