    Yo,

Just wondering what Sky HD Input 2 Signal is about on the HD box? I recently got HD installed and I noticed the picture was a bit wavey. I went into the Signal Test and saw the Input 2 Signal was below half way and then every couple of seconds it would move up to half way. I then checked it later yesterday evening and there was no signal. I have a samsung box.

    Cheers,
    Regan

that would suggest the alignment is not spot on.
you should call the guy who installed it if it was a recent install.

there are 2 tuners in the box (should have 2 cables comming from the dish)
hence input 1 and input 2.

Was it a new install ie. New dish new lnb and cabling.
or an upgrade ie. Box swapout, single cable run and new lnb.

It was just an upgrade from an normal sky box.

Ok it sounds like your problem is with the dish, what condition is the dish in is their much rust on it is it up a long time. I do advise people who are upgrading to Sky+ or Sky Hd to demand a new dish that is if their old dish is in bad condition or up more than five or six years. Sky digital was opened up to the Irish public nearly 9 years ago after they changed over the analogue customers first .

The installer should have and would have to realign your dish when he put on the Quad lnb. I come across this a lot did he run the second cable directly to the receiver or is there any connections/joins on the cable.
Was your installer an independant or a contractor from Sky

He was a contractor from Sky as I arranged it through Sky.
I think he ran a second cable but not sure, must check this evening.

As a matter of interest, whats a Quad Inb? :)

Might be an idea to swap the input 2 cable with the input 1 cable and then do the signal test.

If you do this and then input 1 signal instead is below half way you will know that it is not your STB tuner playing up but definitely to do with the signal coming in.

+1 , Be the first thing to check.
TBH many HD boxes are a bit flaky. If the issue was with dish alignment would be a poor signal to both tuners. After that , as Scaller said , the issue is most likely with cabling or connections. Possibly faulty LNB.

The dish isnt too bad, its only a year or two old. Sorry I'm not that technical so I have a few questions about things.
    Whats a Quad Inb?
And whats STB Tuner? (presumably the box)
    And finally LNB? :)

The LNB is the small box at the end of your dish with the cables coming out of it. STB (Set Top Box) is your Sky box

    Quad lnb

    Set-top Box

the installer may have knocked the dish or not re alligned it when fitting the new lnb.

    lnb

Would an old dish effect the HD box, my dish has quite a bit of rust, but is just over 3 years old, got HD installed at the start of the year, installed did nothing expect swap the Sky + box for the HD box. The HD box hangs sometime when recording and no channels can be viewed and I have to reboot the box.
Anyone have this problem or know a solution, should I get the box exchanged before the 1 year warrnaty expires?

This sounds more like a STB issue and not the dish. No harm in calling Sky and getting it sorted while you're still within warranty.

To be sure the OP should get his dish and cabling checked aswell as get the decoder changed.

samsung hd boxes can be a bit hit and miss.
The best so far are Amstrad(Despite their terrible reputation they are quite good, My hd box is an amstrad, theres also the fact the contrast cannot be changed, it is also next to be getting the new HD EPG(Menu system)
Then comes Pace (Can sometimes have a loud fan or in some cases hang and slow down to a crawl, these already have the new HD EPG, can also have problems with losing signal)
Then comes Samsung (You already see the problems yourself)
And finally the worst which is Thomson(These were the first to be released and have a terrible reputation for hanging, slowing down and losing signal constantly)

Disagree totally I've a Thomson HD box for over 2 and half years and have had no problems.

My Pace HD is top notch, none of the problems mentioned by partyatmygaf and seem to get the best reviews when questions are asked.
