There are no books/CDs to download Irish Sign Language. You will need to pop into the Irish Deaf Society which is on 30 Blessington St, Dublin 7 who have some books and CDs to learn basic sign language. However, you really should go to classes as ISL is a visual communication and 70% of the language is all to do with facial expressions/body language.

www.deaf.ie is the website of the IDS.

    Good Luck :)

Have you been learning Irish Sign Language? or have you learnt it before but never got the chance to use it again?

The Irish Deaf Society is organising an informal ISL evening at the Dublin Deaf Association (40 Lower Drumcondra Road, Dublin 9) where you can learn more about ISL and the Deaf community.

We will also have information about upcoming courses from September 2010 (Including FETAC accredited courses)

    Friday 25th June 2010 from 6pm

Representatives from organisations such as the Irish Deaf Society, Irish Sign Language Academy, Centre for Deaf studies (TCD) and Dublin Deaf Scouts will also be in attendance,

Enquiries can be made with susan@irishdeafsociety.ie

If you want to learn ISL the best thing to do is take classes. You will find it very confusing to learn from a dvd. I'm just after finishing Level 1 ISL in Limerick, and I would really recommend taking classes with the IDA. You sit an exam at the end of each stage and get awarded a certificate from FETAC.

http://www.deafhear.ie/ DeafHear is a shop at the top of Parnell square, beside the Hugh Lane gallery. They have a range of DVD's and books there for quite good value.

This website http://shop.irishdeaf.com/ is also very good. Though I've noticed a lot of religious terminology in the dictionary's I brought, which wasn't that helpful to an atheist like me :)
