    I'm looking to enter an undergraduate degree course for the second time next year, I'll be over 23 so I'll be a mature student. I completed my last degree in full. I'm just wondering if there is ANY funding for someone who realises that they chose the wrong career path when they had to fill out their CAO form at the ridiculous age of 16, and would like a second chance at education :(. I'm not alone in this, I hear.
    Any ideas would be really appreciated,thanks.

    Nothing much - unfortunately the only one that I'm aware of is the Student Assistance Fund which is for anyone in college to apply to if they are facing hardship, but this isn't something to be relied on as it often runs out.

    hi, i've a similar question to this, the only difference is that i didn't finish the first undergrad, i left after two years and am now returning after three years to start a new undergrad degree. i understand that there is the second chance student option if you wait 5 years but some of the websites (education.ie and studentfinance.ie) are very unclear about grants available for mature students in this situation. No one seems to have all the information, everybody has bits and pieces and I reckon there must be some way to get some funding...
    help!?

    i.e. from studentfinance.ie

    I am Over 23 Years of Age on 01 January 2009
    You are eligible to apply for a grant if you meet either of the following conditions:

    I am entering an approved Honours Degree course* for the first time

    OR
    I am entering an approved Honours Degree course* to complete it (for the first time) after a break of one year or more having previously entered an approved course
    *Approved under either the Higher Education Grants Scheme or the Vocational Education Committee Scholarship Scheme

    Note: If you previously attempted an approved Honours Degree course but did not successfully complete it and are now, following a break in your studies of at least five years, returning to pursue an approved course at the same level in 2009/10, you are still considered eligible to apply for a grant.

    this part;
    I am entering an approved Honours Degree course* to complete it (for the first time) after a break of one year or more having previously entered an approved course
    *Approved under either the Higher Education Grants Scheme or the Vocational Education Committee Scholarship Scheme
    applies to me but then there's the note underneath... anyway of scapping the note? or do i have to take both into account... i'm really at a loss here..
    and also not willing to give up.
