The World Championships in Berlin are over and what a great week for the irish !! some great performances by the team..

The next major event is the 2010 European Championships in Barsalona in late July. How do you think the irish will do ?? who will be the stand out preformer ?? can ireland win a medal ?? Who carries our best hopes ?? who might surprise us and make the podium ??

Also next summer are the World Junior Championships in Canada... Ireland has only won one Medal at the Championships way back in the 1990's .... Will Ireland win a Medal ?? Who's our best chance ?? Ciara Mageean maybe ?? Ciara in the 800m or 1500m ?? or someone else maybe ?? What do you Think ??

Derval O'Rourke and David Gillick lowered there own National Records juring the Summer... both have won medals in major indoor championships before.. can they do it in Doha in March at the World Indoors ??

Also Some of Irelands most experienced athletes and young talented athletes may be compete at the commonwealth games in 2010 in September for Northren Ireland........... Who might preform well under the Northren Ireland flag ??
So many Questions ?? So many opinions ... so much to look forward to ... Whats your Opinion ??

There's also the World Indoors next March

And then the World Juniors in Canada in July

Are any of our athletes eligible for Northern Ireland (Commonwealth Games in October 2010)

I'd say our medal chances are (outdoors)

Gillick - has a good chance of gold if he builds on this year

    O'Rourke - ditto

Hession - should make the final, needs to improve his first 100 and will almost certainly have to PB to get a medal

Loughnanne - Won a silver at the worlds, so a great chance of medal at the europeans

Mageean - Will possibly be our only serious medal contender at the Juniors, in either discipline

Heffernan - I dont know much about the walks but he was a medal shout ofr Berlin so surely for the Europeans?

Mens 4x400 - Now i find this interesting; a team of Gillick (improving his NR), Gregan (running under 46, possibly mid 45s), Hession (has a 32. 300 and could definitely pull out a 45. relay split if he latched onto someone and his speed and strength pulled him round) and a 4th runner going under 47

Obviously GB will be big favourites, but there's no reason why a team like that couldnt battle with Belgium, France, Poland and Russia for a medal (most likely bronze)

Derval O'Rourke's 4th in Berlin was great but alot of people seem to think that since she was the top European in Berlin that she will win GOLD in Barsalona next ssummer...

i think this is far from the case !! kallur is injured this seaon and will prob be back next year .. last year her best time was 12.54 and her P.B. is 12.47... impressive to say the least and she is a proven championship performer.. bar beijing ha....
also there are many others hot on Derval's heal's..
but fingers crossed im wrong.. and fingers crossed Derval stay's injury free .. which seem's to be a problem

If Kallur is fit she will be the favourite but O'Rourke has shown she is a championship performer
