When you notice staff stealing money from their employers...

Three out of the last four times that I have gone to my local drivethrough for my weekly dose of junk food the various cashiers have not put the order though the till, but taken money from me and given me change with no receipt or only part of the order on the receipt.

The first time it happpened I noticed that my order only had a coca-cola on the receipt. I thought it may have been an error and left it.
The second time I got no receipt at all which is usually attached to the bag, and to be honest I probably only noticed because of what happened the first time. It seems that orders for fries and drinks are not being registered as it must be easy to scam these through the system.

If this has happened me repeatedly and I seldom go there it must be happening on a grand scale. And it's not just one cashier. I normally wouldn't care too much about something like this if it happened once.

Part of me says it's not my problem, and the their pay is probably not too good, but for some reason it's beginning to annoy me a bit now. I feel in some way they're stealing my money too as they don't own the stuff they're selling, or that I'm somehow involved in their scam now I know of it.

Has any else had this happen to them in these recessionary times? What action if any would you take? Phone the branch manager? Ask for a cut of the skim?

Would you even bother reporting something like this?

Heh, I caught a very old woman stealing strawberries from the fruit and veg shop in Navan shopping centre yesterday. She was just plopping handfuls of loose ones into her coat pocket. One fell and caught my eye and I looked at her JUST as she was dropping another load in.

She gave me a great smile in a kind of "ah, you caught me" kind of way, so I smiled back on walked on.

Should I have turned her in?

I would go as far up the chain of responsibility as is possible and let them know and then I wouldn't go back there for food again, tbh.

If they have that robbing attitude to their job, where does professionalism, pride in their work or hygene come on their list of priorities.

you pay for food, you get food.

    Don't see the problem tbh

Reverse Forearm Smash followed by full nelson would sort that out.

    Absolitely!

For all you know she wasnt an old woman anyway, but it was an elaborate disguise so she/he can get away with their grand strawberry scheme!

You should demand a receipt. In any case if you have a problem with any of the purchases you need something to produce. Not ringing up purhcases is a well-known scam - the till will balance at the end of the night and the manager will be none the wiser.

Please report those f*cking scumbags, its those selfish bastards that put companies out of business and cause the rest to lose their jobs.

The owner will be grateful and if your lucky you might just get a coupon etc :p Staff are not exactly in great shortage nowadays and if you aren't honest enough to not steal you don't deserve a job.

The next time you go, when you get a receipt with some stuff missing, tell them they didnt give you everything you ordered (point this out on the receipt)and demand to get the stuff not listed on the receipt. Free chips for you! They wont dare question it as the manager would know what they were at if you got him involved.

And also enjoy the snot and spit burger on your next visit.

It did cross my mind to do this but considered that the next time I visited (not many in area) they might add an unwanted extra ingredient of some kind. I generally follow the rule of not giving people who prepare your food any reason to dislike you...

But you're right about the proof of purchase thing if there's a problem with something.

edit: some people have pointed this out

    Yes, I'd report them.
They are not only putting their own necks on the line but the others along with them too.

No job is safe at the present time - they are not helping job security of all.
They are perhaps greedy, definitely thoughtless and not caring a damn about their fellow workers at all!

Businesses are struggling just to stay above water - they are digging their own graves and possibly helping to create a further strain on the dole queues eventually when the business fails/collapses and all get their p45's.
That way afterwards, we will ALL be paying for them in our taxes!

Report them, help save the others jobs there - feck them that are pulling the others down with their thieving!

Are there managers stupid enough to believe that somebody would go to mc Donalds drive through for a fcuking coke? Let them steal it, mc Donalds are raking in the cash. Fcuk the capatilist bastards... Either way, it's the companies fault, not yours.

They never prosecute thieves at McDs, they just burgarise em, and sell them as Happy Meals. Open up your burger and look for the frown that they turn upside down:eek:

Was it a fast food chain? always thought the bigger chains have very strict stock control to stop this, i.e. the till says you sold x portions of chips so you should only have used y amount of raw chips.

Thats what i thought. I remember hearing food that was thrown out after being on hot shelf too long (think its 3 mins) was logged for waste.

It's not McDonald's, but it is one of the larger well known fast food chains. Not sure if allowed to name the company or not, thought it best not to.

You'd be better off shopping half of your TDs or your bank.

    Otherwise mind your own business.

I agree with your point about corrupt politicians and bankers, but surely it becomes "your own business" if these people are not giving a proper receipt for goods purchased?

As somebody pointed out already, if you bought something and there was a problem with it, you have no comeback without a receipt.

What is your main concern then: their behaviour or the fact that you if you find a mouse in your burger, you can't exchange it?

Your OP mentioned nothing about your return rights being affected, only an opposition to their behaviour.

A large supermarket chain had a bit of this going on for a while. I heard stories (probably from Boards) so went in and after a bit of waiting and watching I did notice this little scam between checkout drones and customers. I didn't say anything as one cannot fight every battle, one must pick and choose one's battles

Call me what you want but it would be my nature to report it.

Besides, you usually get some free **** out of it. But - that can backfire on you.

We were out one night, and this ugly bitches on the other side of the garden took advantage of the unattended bar - swept behind the counter, grabbed a bottle of vodka. Grand. Have your prize. But no - they chucked it against the wall and laughed. I thought that was just ****ing disgraveful - I hate vodka and I hate the smell but dammit that was just a waste.

When I went to report it (quietly mind you!) the owner thanked me, shook my hand, and I went off. Then he comes out, and kicks the bitches out. IN THE SAME INSTANCE he walks over with a bottle of Aftershock and does us all shots at ours. ****ing facepalm-mortified.
