im 25, ive lived away from home for a long time and in 2008, i lost my job and moved home in july 2008. i signed on the dole in july. and in september, i got a job working for sky digital. i was self employed contracted out.
in december, i moved out of parents house, into my own place.

now, yesterday, my lease was up and ive moved into a m8's gaff for 2 weeks until i go to college.

im worried about applying for the grant, as they say i need to be living independantly from parents from october 1st 2008. but i lived in my parents for a few months while i got back on my feet.

is there any work around this, as if im classed as dependant, ill get nothing as my dad's income was pretty high last year.

im not getting assistance from them, as im 25 and all growded up.

anyone shed some light on what i can do?

Unfortunately, my understanding of the scheme is that you would be assessed under your parents' income as well as your own from last year since you were there last October. They are normally quite strict with the 1st October residency rule and even are strict on what they accept to proved you lived there. However, it's still worth contacting your local Council/VEC to ask if there's anything that can be done.

im in the same boat, i saw you on other tread. how can people have BILLS in there names if they are the tennants and dont own the house? this is really frustrating! the guy on the phone in council ate my head off literally and said i needed an ESB bill/ gas bill end of story!!! sure i cant go on my parents income, mam is dead and dad earned alot last year but we dont really have a great relationship. im 25 , he wont be giving me money for college, he has family of his own.

    This is a nightmare.!!!!

if i were you i would ring citizen's information.
i rang them today, they were great help. however, im going to go see my local counciller and ask him to sort it out. they work with the town council all the time and have plenty of string to pull.
i suggest you do the same before the 31st closing date comes by.

forget ringing citizens information, they are useless. get in touch with your local TD.
