Fugly Subarus - really that bad?

OK, I've been pretty apalled by the pics I've seen so far of the 2010 Legacy and most have been of the US-spec model. However I came across this recently, claimed to be the JDM model with different bumpers and *possibly* more subtle wheel-arches...

Now I'm not saying it's a Quattroporte or even an Alfa 159 but in the right color/spec/wheels it might look half-decent...

Having said that I'm someone who thinks that the hot versions of the Impreza - with flared arches and big wheels - look delicously menacing (like a 21st Century Integrale with it's wheel on the right side). I also think the Forester - whilst not my cup-of-tea - is actually tidy and handsome as SUVs go...

I think that legacy is alright tbh, except for that front, the headlights look a bit stretched or something. I think it shows that the US was the primary target market

Cant stand the new impreza, cant believe theyve made such a mess of it and the forthcoming 3 door version doesnt look any better! they should have stuck with a saloon IMO

The new forester is an OK looking car, as well not particularly exciting but certainly not fugly.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

There has never been a good looking Subaru, so I doubt there will ever be one in the future, but who knows? Thankfully beauty is not what attracts buyers to the make. The Impreza is one of the uglier cars on sale, but the base diesel is the best value for money small family diesel around.

I like Subarus. I think they are good looking and have a good spec for the price.

I actually like that one and with those wheels the rear quarter looks like an Opel Insignia.

I have told the boss, subject to the recession and whatnot, that I would like a Legacy but would obviously prefer the A4 but would take a Legacy instead of the usual bog standard Passatt or sh*tty Mondeo option.

Looks like a Lexus ES350 ripoff.

Same here, too much like a Lexus. But then again they are trying to make the car more mainstream for the US market. Frameless doors are out - pity. They barely keep the rear quarter window styling that has been a Subaru styling cue on the saloon for years. The current Legacy Sports Tourer is much better looking in the right colour - understated yet handsome.

That photo isn't too bad to be honest. Its not great looking and the headlights are ugly but the rest of it looks simple and solid. I think colour and wheels could make a huge difference to the looks

That photo doesn't look too bad, remember the Americas like lots of bling and chrome so lets wait and see what the Euro spec model looks like. I would put money on the Euro spec model looking more like the JDM than the American model.

Another example of this is the new Mazda 6, the US model model is more chubby than the JDM or Euro model:

Lol, look at the exhaust "opening", I presume thats not actually part of the exhaust setup. Pure tack.

I'm not overwhelmed either by the pics I've seen of the saloon & tourer.
The Forester although one of the nicer SUV's in its class, is not as nice as its predecessor.

Just did an almost top to bottom Ireland trip in the Legacy tourer and it was unbelievable. I have to say this car has impressed me more than I was expecting. 7 hrs in the seat yesterday on all sorts of roads and I stepped out like I was driving for 10 min. The diesel engine is really growing better and better by the day. :D

You'd have a far better car in the Legacy than the A4.
