My ultegra rear mech just doesnt wanna play ball anymore.Only changes when it wants to and then has a ood long think about it.

Anyway RobFowl gave me an (not too) old Chorus rear mech a while back. Will this work with index shifting if chain width isnt a prob?.I could swap the jockey wheels over from the Ultegra to fit the chain.
    thoughts?

I didn't have time to read either of these, but your answer lies within:

    http://wheelworks.co.nz/drivetrain.php

(Seems like "maybe" if you use a Campag cassette too and do some fiddling - which would cost more than a new Shimano mech)

well it seems like it wont work so now the next step.
With my Ultegra Brifters will a Rival rear mech work?
And is the price difference really worth it for Sram?

Thinking outside the box here - but would you consider using a Shimano rear mech? There's a good chance it would work with your setup.

have you checked to make sure the cable is running free enough. it may just need oil or a new gear cable

yeah changed cables housing's etc. Took the Mech apart as best as I could and completley degreased and re-lubed the spring.Nada. Brought it to LBS and he said it's just the spring starting to get old.

If it's any help, the SRAM levers are the most comfortable I've ever used. I'd definitely choose Rival over 105/Ultegra.

I know what you mean. I'd quite like this groupset, if only it would work:

thanks Morgan. When the budgetary situation improves I will get a set. Meanwhile I will do it bit by bit.First the rear mech. Bit by bit and the missus shouldnt notice it

There are no Shimano shifter, campy mech options there. You will never get indexing 100% if mixing and matching component manufacturers on the drivetrain. OP, shove a 105 on, and save/buy bit by bit for a new groupset. That way your bike will work properly while gathering the groupset. Buying and fitting bit by bit will get you a poorly working bike till the groupset has been completed.

yeah am gonna have to go with the 105 option as my chain and rear mech had a fight this eve and both of them are now fooked.

Looks OK in brochure pics, but fugly in real life. The Force mech appears to have an Ultegra-like dark grey finish for 2010, which is nicer.
