    Sensationalist rubbish, IMO!

It's long been proven that rats in labs can get addicted to exercise - that really isn't news. I don't know how many people are familiar with teh Rat Park experiments ut they throw a fair amount of doubt on the whole concept of addiction as a purely physical process and the same principal applies here. Take a lab rat in a bare cage with nothing but a treadmill and of course they will exercise to exces (what else would they do?) And then deny them that outlet what do you expect? I'd love to see the original paper to see what controls they had - did the active rats still have access to a treadmill / wheel, for example?

Thanks Amadeus, there must have been a problem with the link. Like you I would like to see the actual paper. As I work in the addiction area and as a runner I'm quite interested in peoples opinions around crap like this.

I do think there are some similarities with addiction, though I avoided researching it too much over the years. I have some thoughts around a piece of reseach, but between not having the time and not wanting to spoil my fun I haven't got around to it.
