    Hey,

SO i have an old Microstar MID2020 laptop. Been out of action for over a year (maybe 2 i can't remember). The hard drive is completly gone.

Is there anywhere i could get a cheap hard drive for it? I was going to throw it out but if i could get it working, someone in the family would make use of it. Any ideas?

The hard disk is a Seagate Momentus model ST94Q11A. I have attached photos of it. I don't know much about laptop hard drives. Is this a generic fitting. Are there any places i could get a cheap HD (i don't car about the size, a few GB will do).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Its a 2.5" IDE/ATA drive, they are still made in small numbers by most manufacturers, so you'll pick them up just about anywhere. You'd pick up a new WD or Samsung 120GB one for around €40 or €50. They don't really get cheaper than that unless you're buying 2nd hand - not recommended.

If it's a really old laptop, it might not support sizes larger than 120GB (although they would still 'work') so bear that in mind when shopping around.

Make sure to keep the current drive as you'll need to use the end connector and mounting hardware off it.

Thanks Voodu Child, that was a great help. Found one for 20 euro off ebay. I only want to get the laptop up and running again so this suits fine.

    Thanks again.
