New To Dublin Golf

Will be relocating from USA to Dublin soon. Going to be in South Dublin, around D.18.

I'm looking for recommendations on golf clubs with great practice facilities. Well maintained chipping/putting greens and good grass on the driving range. A bar/club house/locker room to hang out in afterwards is a plus.

    Any recommendations?

How about recommendations for courses that allow electric carts/buggies?

    Hi Soonhere

You wouldn't be too far from Druids Glenn. There's two courses there too. And you're also not too far from Wicklow.

There's also two courses in Powerscourt. The old course there is very good, I think. These are expensive options, I'd say.

I'm sure there are lots more, but these are the ones that spring to mind.

Most clubs here allow electric carts and buggies in the summer, but unless you can't actually walk 18 holes they are generally not seen as something to be using. Only the very newest courses have buggy tracks.

You'll find that not many clubs here have large driving ranges with grass tee areas, however practically every club has a club house, locker room, bar etc.

A bit more information would probably help, there are a great many golf clubs around Dublin so an idea of you budget would probably be important and whether you are planning on joining a club or leasing a memberhip.

Large, one time membership fees are less attractive as I don't know how many years I'll be in Dublin. I have had hip surgery and have trouble walking 18 holes.

Costs are not a big concern. I prefer something more classic in course and clubhouse.

if you have a medical reason then nearly all clubs will allow buggy use except when it is too wet and even pull carts aren't allowed. When you say classic, do you mean links or parkland? How far are you willing to travel? There are 50 or so course in Dublin alone.

It sounds like leasing a membership may be your best option, you basically pay the yearly subscription fee for someone and use the club as a full member, possibly while they are abroad. You would be looking at around €1000 and €2000 a year, but this would cover nearly any club. Have a look at the two clubs Brokagh mentioned above and maybe comment on whether they are they kind of thing you are looking for.

The Powerscourt is ideally what I would be looking for. That's a beautiful course and setup.
