Given the collapse yesterday of the viaduct at the Malahide Estuary - where a major tragedy could so easily have happened AND the collapse of the Cahir viaduct on the Limerick-Waterford line a few years back, can we say that the Lough Tap railway bridge over the Shannon on the Dublin to Sligo line is structurally safe?

It's a very old bridge that has been very poorly maintained and trains between Dublin and Sligo have to go slow when travelling over it. Could a major tragedy be just around the corner given IE's poor record of recent bridge collapses?

reed somewhere recently that they were actully planning to close this section of the line sometime later this year to carry out work on it, meaning that a section of the journey will be on bus transfers, if this is the case lets hope IR dont continue to charge the €40 fare that they usally do

You can book online and get 10 euro fares from Sligo to Dublin The 15:05 and 17:00 and 19:00 ex Sligo are 10 euro's six days a week. Travelling from Dublin the 09:05,11:05,13:05 are ten euro's The 07:05 is 22 euro's and you need to fork out the 40 euro's for the 15:05,16:05,17:05,19:05 I am afraid.

They seem to be Constructing a new Bridge beside it or a Temporay one while they repair the old one.
