VEC pre nursing interview question.

I have been called for an interview regarding the pre-nursing course that I have applied for. Have any of you had one of these interviews before?
    My questions are:

How many people will be on the VEC panel interviewing me?
    What will I be asked?
Should I bring anything with me?

I received no information about the interview at all & I really want a place on this course. I have applied for 3 pre-nursing courses in 3 different VEC colleges but the one that I have the first interview for is my preference so I really don't want to screw it up by not having any answers & saying "eh, mmmm, etc"

It really depends on what college you are applying to as to what they will ask.

But generally it will be about your education to date, your results, the course you want to do, what it involves, how many modules and what is expected of you, why you want to do it, what do you see as the challenges of the course, how you would cope with the requirements of the course, how you would organise yourself, where do you see yourself going with the course.

Dont be too worried about it - if they are interviewing they must have places and if they have places at this time of the year then they are seeking applicants - remember you are a potential student and they may need you to fill their course. But despite this possibility approach it with a sense of respect and caution and display an eagerness to want to do the course and succeed. Best of luck

    Hi,

I got it. I was asked a few casual questions, why did I want to do this, what was my aim for after the course, what did I know about the course. It was all very relaxed though so it felt more like a chat. I took with me a cv & my certs from previous courses, they were very impressed with my initiative :-) I had the interview at 9:30am & got a call at 2pm to say that I'd been accepted. I am delighted with myself now. I can't wait to start. Fingers crossed next year I'll be going to TCD or UCD. Thanks again for the reply Further Ed :-)

Well done and best of luck with the course.

Do remember that there are very few places for FETAC applicants eg UCD have only 4 places for FETAC applicants for General Nursing and 1 place in
Integrated General and Children's Nursing, Midwifery and Psychiatric Nursing. Also note that TCD arent one of the universities that are part of the FETAC scheme for Nursing. See http://www2.cao.ie/fetac/FETACNursingQuota.pdf
Be prepared as a backup to continue your studies in the UK after the FETAC course so check with your FE college is they have a link with a UK college, most of the bigger colleges do, especially for their Nurisng courses.

Thanks for that list, it is very handy.
I hope to apply through Fetac & as a mature student. Ideally I'd love to study in Dublin but if I end up in Cork or even England then so be it. I am literally burting with excitement now. Thanks Further Ed ;)
