Has anyone got favourites? We're a bit limited in Ireland, but I think Christy Jnr has come up with some good stuff, as has Ruddy and, of course, Eddie Hackett. Then there's Jeff Howes and a good few more.

I don't know how much imput the tour pros/former tour pros have in the design, of course.

In the States, the likes of Coore and Crenshaw and Tom Doak seem to be brilliant. Doak has done a little work at Rossapenna, I think.

I love Patrick Merrigans design at Slieve Russell. He co-designed the Old Head of Kinsale aswell. Christy has some great courses to his name, but some of his other courses are very average in my opinion. Cant fault Ruddy on his european club creation. Think he designed the Galsheady links at Ballyliffin too. Excellent course.

christy o connor jnr is not a golf course architect... he's a name, has an amount of imput at initial design, and gets paid very handsomely.

    but fair play to him!

Yes, it's hard to know the input from the pros.

I love the European Club, but it has got a bit of criticism for the flat fairways. It doesn't bother me.

Ruddy did a good bit of work on Portsalon too, but I haven't seen it since the changes.

Martin Hawtree has also done some good stuff - changes to Arklow and Portmarnock.
