    Hi all,
I am a few weeks pregnant and will have my first GP visit next week. I understand that antenatal care is free for all women but does this include your visits to the GP? I ask because I am unemployed and a medical card has not yet come through so am kinda broke at the moment!
    Many thanks!

You get 6 free visits to your GP during pregnancy. Some GPs make you pay for the first visit (where you confirm pregnancy), some don't.

My Gp charges for all visits that aren't routine checkups. It's so annoying, I had a really bad kidney infection last week and I was charged for the visit even though it was obviously pregnancy related.
I wish I'd known that before signing up with her. I assumed all visits were free when pregnant.

My GP never charged me.. not even for my first visit when i told him I was pregnant..
He even takes my bloods every 7 weeks for me.. all free of charge.. well at least so far..
I think its up to them though.. you can definately get your 6 free visits.. they are through the HSE scheme.. they are with your own GP of course.

I paid for my first visit to the GP because my own doctor was on holidays so a locum was covering and I didn't realise that visits were free when you were pregnant. My own GP rang me when he got back from holidays and told me to go pick up the monday from reception because he wasn't charging me for it. I thought that was v nice. I never paid for any visit during pregnancy.
