As far as I know you are entitled to a break every four hours. That said when I was working in Dunnes, you got no break if you were on a 4 hour shift.

    yes, yes it does.

im at work now:( and some drunk guy spat on me:mad:

ah no, a job is a job, i like the other people who work here, i usually stay on to chat to them after my shift for a bit, but when your hours are compleatly mixed, going from nights to days with no breaks its tough to always bring food that you can take a mouthful here and there.

and the screens in front of me burn the hell out of my eyes, haha whine whine whine:)

You only would if you were under 18, and even then I think the shift has to be 4 hours and more but you can't work more than 4 without one. For everyone else it's 15 minute break every 4.5 hours.

OP, you're entitled to at least half an hour. Most places would give you an hour for that shift. Your employer is taking the piss. If you don't want to bring it up to your employer, talk to the unions (Mandate), particularly the pregnant girl- that's awful!

Name and shame, why should other businesses pay for staff to cover breaks while the business you work in doesn't.

Is it a case that nobody 'takes' a break or were you told no breaks. Does anybody smoke?

It depends on the job - several services are exempt from normal working practice rules i.e. cleaning, security and hotel staff afaik.

The guys I have working for me would do 8, 10 and 12 hour shifts, but they'd be taking 'breaks' during their shift i.e. reading the paper, having cups of tea, food etc.

I work in the security trade.

Never looked it up, but did work for hotels. Whats the rules for breaks there?

have you actually ASKED if you can take your break?
I'm a manager. Sometimes you have other things on you mind and forget. We cant wipe everyones arse for them. Go ask when you can take it. (not, if)
