Can anyone tell me if its possible to integrate an email address from my own domain, into a gmail account?

A lot of people use the same email address, so gmail is best for this. However, one thing we do is send a newsletter to several thousand email addresses. I believe there is a 500 email limit on gmail but I hear you can use your own mail servers to get around this?

Can anyone tell me how I can do this?
    Thanks

It can be done in the 'settings' area.

Beware that while gmail emails give instant notification, emails form other accounts are only checked every hour or so.

Get a Google apps account, you can setup groups and forwarders to multiple accounts, it's free to $50 per user depending on the need and type of org/company.

I certainly wouldn't use the standard free one for any kind of business purpose as if you want to send from a different email address it puts in 'sent on behalf of xyz@gmail.com' which looks unprofessional.

It involves some DNS changes to make it happen but all very easy.

As for newsletters/bulk email, use a bulk mail service like www.campaignmonitor.com rather than just regular email, saves lots of hassle IMO.

    Dotmailer is quite good too

Some hosting companys have newsletter services that you can just put the html into the box and send to all the list. I persume you just want to be able to send out newsletters without doing it one by one and without everyones email address on the newsletter received at the end user.

I would navagate away from Gmail and use your own domain for this.

    Send to : newletter@domain.com

Bcc : everyone on the list

The problem with that is that many anti-spam programs bin anything that's not either in the to or cc field, also outlook and Gmail have a limit of about 50 I think (the limit may be more or less) to avoid spam.

Ok through settings in gmail I added an email address mail@mydomain.com and I can now send emails from it form within gmail, perfect. Uses my hosts smtp servers. So, I think this is it!

However, as per this article: http://www.labnol.org/internet/email/gmail-daily-limit-sending-bulk-email/2191/ there are limits as to how many emials you can send.

So, this is not going to work. I need to send out an email to thousands of emial addresses. However I'm sure I can use Outlook with my domains SMTP servers and send it that way. Do hosts have limits like this? I use blacknight.

Otherwise I could use something like www.phplist.com but I'd prefer to keep it simple if I can.

    Thanks

phpList does take a bit of work to set up but once done then it is easy to send emails (even if the interface flow is not entirely obvious). phpList can be set to have a delay between emails and to limit the emails per hour so as not to trigger host limits.

As for what those limits might be, contact your host.

If you have phpList questions then just start another thread and I'll see if I can contribute answers.

It's very cheap, I think $5 to send and 1c per message, and less the more messages you send. Peanuts really.

There's a few problems associated with sending large volumes of mail (mostly to do with differentiating you from a spammer), good idea to go with a company like campaign monitor or similar if you want to avoid the hassle.

I used to do this before I got a proper account on a mail server.

If you have access to your DNS settings (http://zoneedit.com is quite good), set up a mail forward so that mail sent to your domain gets forwarded to Gmail. Gmail can be easily configured to send mail from another address also: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=22370
