Stolen Bike

    Hi all,

Had my 2nd bike stolen outside Superquinn in Finglas village today around 3pm. Reported it to the guards but don't think they can do much. Laid it against the side wall on McKee Avenue and locked the rear wheel to the main frame so whoever took it must have lifted it completely and either done a runner or put in the back of a car/van and made their way.

Anyway, in the unlikely event of someone spotting it I've posted a pic.

    God bless,

    Phil.

So sorry to see the loss of your bike. Its a terrible thing to come out and find it gone.

My advice is to watch gumtree.ie and donedeal incase the robbers are going to flog it off and dare i say it.. adverts.ie because you never really know..

Was the frame just locked to the wheel or was the frame and wheel locked to something immovable???

    Sorry to hear about this.

Sounds like it wasn't locked to anything. If it was only locked with that cable lock pictured then there's a good chance the lock was cut (a good bolt cutters would get through that in about 10 seconds).

Had that bike out but got a new one recently which I definitely won't be using to get messages from the shop. Was just going to be using it for short commutes so I guess I'm going to have to use the car and add a little more CO2 to the atmosphere.

Back wheel to frame to thin air was the way twas locked. Guess I just got lazy and thought it would never happen to me, i.e. get stolen.

That was the way I locked a bike in Finglas (outside the shops on Cappagh Drive) because my U-lock wouldn't fit around a wide metal drain pipe. 5 mins later it was gone, apparently lifted into the back of a van.

The cable lock shown in the photo would not survive long from an attack. I bought an Abus Granit-X for some peace of mind. I have a basic cable style for the front wheel.

So, I recommend a good lock instead of the car. Or shop in Clearwater down the road.
